Tippin Point

A New Dimension in Speed and Flow

When we were developing the third-generation Meyerhoffer longboard, the XYZ, we started to question how far the concept of creating a longboard with two distinct zones and a narrow waist could go. So we decided to develop a shape where we pushed every design aspect to the Tippin Point.

We learned a lot through this development cycle that we later applied to the new XYZ design. After a few iterations, we landed on a design that worked much better than we ever imagined. For sure the Tippin Point will make your head spin at first, but once you understand the board’s endless possibilities and ability to push boundaries…you are hooked.

The tail is inspired by the stout and speedy shape of the ever-popular White Ass but with a slightly more pulled-in outline and thinned-out profile to provide unmatched speed and drive. The long straight outline of the nose and deep single concave provide excellent nose-riding ability. Better yet, the hourglass shape allows the hip of the tail to hook into the wave face, holding the back of the board when you’re styling on the nose.

The board comes stock as a single fin, but we have been riding it as a quad. It’s up to you. We make them with 5 boxes if you can’t decide or are the experimental type. Check out the video below with our man Kyle Jouras of Santa Cruz being taken for a ride on his first-ever session with the Tippin Point. You can see how he quickly gets the hang of it, literally. We are sure you will, too, and have a lot of fun doing so. After all, a little experimentation goes a long way to turn up the session.

Design Elements

The Tippin Point has the same wide single-concave nose as the XYZ, providing a stable platform for nose riding. It features a relaxed rocker and wider tail template to create speed and drive in smaller waves. Four distinct rocker zones give the board dynamic personality.

A pure nose-riding rocker transitions to a convex middle section that functions as the nose when you are up to speed and provides quick rail-to-rail action. The widest point of the board has a fairly flat rocker with a deep double concave to allow you to drive the board fluidly and generate speed. Finally, the tail has a kicked-up rocker to allow the board to go vertical. Add it all up and you get shortboard-quality fun and quickness in a stable platform that dominates small-wave sessions.

Flex Fin by Futures

The Meyerhoffer Flex Fin was developed with our friends at Futures to complement the unique dynamics of our surfboards. Using Futures high tech materials, the fin is made of HEX Core RTM for a more lively flex than standard fiberglass.

The newly developed template incorporates a unique pivot point on the leading edge between the stiffer carbon-fiber base and the flexible tip for progressive drive and power. The steeply raked carbon-fiber portion holds with a precise feel, while the flex tip seamlessly loads up to drive you out of bottom turns.

This 8.5″ fin is specifically tuned to match our single-fin Slip In model and our XYZ performance longboards, but will add performance to any surfboard.

Reviews

Just got delivery here in Australia of one of your Flex Fins, just had to write to say WOW! It is incredible; the amount of drive that comes out of it is phenomenal. I am using it on a 6’6” Christensen Sub mariner “Planning Hull” and it has made it even livelier than it was before.

Also the finish on the fin is great as well – it looks good and has everyone who sees it asking what it is.

Cheers and thanks
